What's authorized as optional wear (with which Class), per the "Optional" Uniform Items Purchasing Guide (revised October 2025).

Notation: O = optional · AR = approval required by Unit Chief or Program Manager.

Cap — Baseball Style (C / D / E)

• Dark navy blue (closely matching uniform)

Hat — Widebrim — Law Enforcement Only (B / E)

• No embroidery
• Campaign 4-dent style, felt or straw
• Cord-and-acorn adornment of the correct rank color on the Campaign Cover by a POST Certified Recruit Training Officer (RTO) while engaged in RTO duties during a Regular Basic Course
• Only Law Enforcement Officers may wear their rank insignia badge on the front of the Stratton hat

• Detachable hoods and insulated liners are authorized
• Liners NOT approved for wear without the exterior shell, with the exception of the Valiant Duty when embroidery specifications are met

• Navy (closely matching uniform)
• Not approved as standalone Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)

• Belt buckle must be purchased through an authorized CAL FIRE Local 2881 store. All Risk Uniforms is an authorized CAL FIRE Local 2881 vendor and stocks the Sun Badge Company belt buckle in both gold and silver finishes.
