CAL FIRE Class A Uniform Cost in 2026: Complete Package Breakdown for Cadets, Academies & Departments

Updated for the current academy season — written by All Risk Uniforms, the L2881-endorsed CAL FIRE vendor and the only shop where you can order a complete Class A package 100% online.

If you're a CAL FIRE cadet weeks out from graduation, an academy coordinator pulling kit-list quotes, or a department buyer estimating a class purchase, this is the breakdown you need. We move 500+ Class A uniforms a year through our Redding and Ione stores, and we know exactly what every line item costs and where buyers waste money.

The short answer

A complete CAL FIRE Class A uniform package — Policy 1500 compliant, ready for graduation, fitted — typically lands between $900 and $1,400 depending on your tailoring needs, brass options, and rush requirements. You can spend more by adding optional pieces (overcoat, dress topcoat, custom embroidery), and you can spend less by skipping items, but a graduation-ready cadet is rarely under $900 once everything's tallied.

What's actually in the package

Our Class A Complete Package includes everything required for graduation under Policy 1500. No hunting down accessories the day before the ceremony.

  • Double-breasted dress jacket — peaked-lapel, six Eureka buttons, mid-weight wool blend. ~$350–$450 depending on size and source.
  • Wool worsted dress trousers — 100% wool, regulation tone, knife-edge crease. ~$120–$160.
  • Class A long-sleeve dress shirt — polished cotton or poly-cotton blend, regulation collar. ~$60–$90.
  • Black clip-on tie — three sizes for proper bib coverage. ~$15–$25.
  • Black dress belt — leather, regulation buckle. ~$30–$50.
  • Peaked dress cap — wool, with chin strap. ~$60–$90.
  • Hat device — brass, matched to your assignment (cadet, firefighter, captain, etc.). ~$20–$40.
  • Collar devices — pair, brass, matched to assignment. ~$20–$40.
  • Badge tab — leather, cut to your pocket flap. ~$10–$20.
  • Plain-toe black oxford shoes — polished, leather sole. ~$120–$200 (Florsheim, Allen Edmonds, etc.).
  • Black dress socks — yes, even the socks are in the package. ~$10.

Item-by-item: what's required vs. optional under Policy 1500

Required for graduation and basic ceremonial duty:

  • Jacket, trousers, shirt, tie, belt, dress cap, hat device, collar devices, oxford shoes, dress socks, badge tab.

Optional unless your assignment requires them:

  • Overcoat / dress topcoat — required for some assignments and ceremonies in cold weather. ~$200–$400. Most cadets don't need this on day one.
  • Sleeve devices (rank or longevity bars) — only required when you've earned them. Cadets graduate without sleeve devices.
  • White gloves — required for honor guard, color guard, and some funeral details. ~$15–$30 per pair.
  • Spare brass set — strongly recommended; brass is small and easy to lose. ~$40–$80.

How tailoring affects the price

Class A is a tailored uniform — off-the-rack will not pass inspection on most builds. Standard tailoring (sleeve length, trouser hem, jacket waist taper) typically runs $60–$150 depending on how much work the suit needs.

Sizing options at All Risk Uniforms:

  • In-store fitting at our Redding HQ or Ione satellite — pin-and-pickup, full alteration on premises. Walk-in or call ahead.
  • 100% online — we are the only CAL FIRE vendor that ships fully-tailored Class A uniforms with a re-tailor or refund guarantee. The measurement guide takes about 15 minutes; if the suit doesn't fit on arrival, we re-tailor or refund. Full stop.
  • By phone — call (530) 215-1522 and we'll walk you through it.

Rush options — when you're ordering 1 week from graduation

Standard turnaround varies by season. Five expedited tiers:

Window Fee
4 Weeks $125
3 Weeks $150
2 Weeks $175
1 Week $225
3 Days $300

Risk-Free Arrival Guarantee: If you purchase expedited shipping and we're late, we pay you $50 per day. The guarantee applies only when an expedited window is paid for, but within that, it's real and we put it in writing.

How to save money — the $500 Price Lock Deposit

Drop a $500 deposit at order time and your shipping price is locked at standard. If you decide later to expedite — even down to our 3-day rush — there's zero added cost. This is a price-locking mechanism, not a discount: you pay the same complete-package total either way, but you protect yourself against rush fees if your timeline tightens unexpectedly.

Pay less than $500 up front (say, $200) and the rush schedule above applies if you need to speed things up later.

Why you can order this online — only one vendor offers it

Most cadets and working firefighters live more than an hour from a CAL FIRE-spec retail store. All Risk Uniforms is the only vendor that ships fully-tailored Class A uniforms 100% online with a re-tailor or refund guarantee. The other CAL FIRE shops require an in-person fitting or sell components without complete-package tailoring. If you can't make it to a retail store, this is your only path.

Department POs and academy cohort orders

If you're an academy coordinator or department buyer, we accept POs and run same-day quotes for cohort-sized orders. See our bulk orders page or call (530) 215-1522 — the owner takes the call.
