CAL FIRE Approved Manufacturers — Brand-by-Brand Reference

Two lists, one for uniforms and one for PPE — every approved brand.

CAL FIRE actually maintains two approved-manufacturer lists, governed by two separate handbooks. Knowing which is which keeps you from getting sold the wrong gear under the wrong claim.

The two lists

1. Uniform manufacturers — embedded in the 1500 Uniform Handbook. Each Class Purchasing Guide names its own approved suppliers + SKUs. Items here are wear items: shirts, trousers, coats, belts, neckties, caps, footwear, brass, optional outerwear, polos, etc.

2. PPE / Safety manufacturers — sourced from Handbook 1700, Safety. This is a separate list maintained by the CAL FIRE Safety Program & PPE Working Group. Items here are safety / protective items: HFEO helmets, IWPE (inclement weather), Web Gear, Performance Base Layer Shirts, SCBA, Structural PPE (SFPE), Wildland PPE (WFPE).

A Class C / Class D duty Nomex IIIA shirt (Workrite or Flying Cross) is a 1500-side uniform item. A wildland Nomex jacket (Workrite FW82YL, Propper F5839, Crew Boss WLS2072, etc.) is a 1700-side PPE item. Different lists. Different rules.

Uniform manufacturers (1500 side)

Per the Class A, B, C, D, E, M Purchasing Guides and the Optional Items Purchasing Guide:

Class A "Dress"

  • Flying Cross — white shirt (M 35W5400 / F 126R5400), trousers (M 28P8696 / F 4800S), coat (DB 17B8696C / SB 4800 SDC)
  • Lighthouse Uniform Co. — Signature Line trousers and coats (DB only; SB unavailable from manufacturer)
  • A.H. Rice — sleeve braid (Vellum style 0N3L6-7100, Gold #96 for Chief, Silver #493 for Non-Chief)
  • Chambers — belt example (6050)
  • Sam Broome — necktie (style 455, 3″)
  • Hankin Brothers — caps (semi-pershing and adjust-to-size styles for Commanding / Chief / Non-Chief Officers)

Class B "Administrative"

  • Flying Cross — white admin shirt and 100% Wool LAPD navy shirt
  • Elbeco — 100% Wool LAPD navy shirt and trouser
  • Flying Cross 100% Wool LAPD — trouser (SFFDTRS02)
  • Chambers — 1¾″ belt (7050-001)

Class C "Work" (Nomex IIIA)

Brass & Insignia

  • Blackinton & Co. — the only authorized model for collar brass, rank insignia badges (Class A & Campaign Hat), and chief/non-chief silver-or-gold finishes.
