The boot you slip on at 5 a.m., wear all shift, and don't think about again. Steel Blue's Hobart is a 6-inch elastic-sided chelsea-style slip-on built around a 200-joule ErgoDefender™ steel toe cap — the same toe protection profile that meets ASTM F2413, but with a deliberately wider footprint so your toes can actually spread inside.
The upper is smooth black full-grain cowhide leather, single-piece on the vamp, with twin elastic gussets running up the sides and twin pull tabs at the back so you can step in without sitting down. Lugged TPU sole with red Trisole® PORON® pads visible from underneath — not gimmick foam, those are the actual shock-absorption inserts engineered into the sole. The whole package is ADA Better Choices for Life recognized: Steel Blue's profile is wide enough through the forefoot for diabetic and edema-prone feet without losing the duty-boot silhouette.
This is a station boot first. Firehouse floor. Engine deck. EMS run. The kind of shift where you're on your feet for 18 hours and the boots have to stop being a thing you notice an hour in.
What's in the boot
- Premium black full-grain cowhide leather upper, sourced from a Leather Working Group (LWG)–certified tannery
- Trisole® Comfort Technology outsole — TPU compound with strategically placed PORON® shock-absorption pads under your foot's peak-stress zones
- Ortho Rebound® molded footbed that conforms to your arch under load
- Slip resistance — exceeds the ASTM F3445-21 standard
- Non-conductive — secondary protection against accidental contact with live electrical currents (ASTM F2413 EH)
- Water-resistant finish on the leather upper (not waterproof — surface treatment that beads off light moisture)
- ADA Better Choices for Life participant — recognized by the American Diabetes Association for ortho-friendly construction
- 60-Day 100% Comfort Guarantee from Steel Blue — break them in, run a full shift, return for full refund if they don't work for your feet
What it's NOT
The Hobart is a station, duty, and crossover work boot. It is not certified to NFPA 1977 (wildland firefighting). If you need NFPA 1977 wildland boots for a Cal Fire kit list or red-card compliance, see our Wildland Fire Boots collection. The Hobart is the boot for the firehouse floor, the engine deck, EMS calls, and crossover off-duty wear — not the fire line.
How it fits
The Hobart runs true to size in our experience. If you're between sizes, size down a half. The elastic-sided slip-on construction means there's no lacing to fine-tune fit, so getting the right size matters more than on a lace-up.
Care
Wipe dirt with a damp cloth. Condition the leather monthly with a quality leather conditioner — these are full-grain leather and they'll last longer if you feed them. Air dry away from direct heat. Don't run them through a washing machine.
